The new adapter arrived from Petaluma, California yesterday. It took only 11 days and no duty. So what does it do. It has a chip that fools the camera into thinking the lens is electronic (EF). It can be used in the M and AV mode. Although you can't change the aperture values ( it says F1.4) it allows the focus confirm and exposure metering to function. Because the chip is built into the FD to EF adapter it can be used with any FD lens. The focus confirm is a little slow and responds best to darker colours. The auto exposure is comparable to using an EF lens. So far I like the results, but I need to take some real pictures. All the pictures below were taken hand held with the 500mm FD, resized and sharpened.

I'm still working with the 500mm lens. I decided to take some time out from paperwork and go outside to take some pictures. All the pictures were taken from a tripod using the mirror lock up function. It helps to reduce camera shake. I've got trouble getting good focus as it is done manually but there is hope. I ordered another adapter that has a chip in it. It has to be used in the aperture mode or manual mode. A half press of the shutter button and adjusting the manual focusing will allow the camera to indicate focus as if the lens were an eos style. The reviews say it works very well. It will also allow the camera to automatic adjust the exposure for a given F stop. I can hardly wait to try it. In the mean time I will keep practicing with manual focus. Now if I had $10,000 I could just buy a 500mm EF, image stabilize lens and it would solve all the problems. Lets get back in focus, we have a 500mm FD reflex lens and we are very happy with the results. Besides there would be no challenge , and I don't have $10 grand to waste.

Well I finally heard back from our friend in the States regarding Roxy. She passed all the info to a Vet friend. The response was less than I had hoped for although I guess I wasn't expecting a diagnosis of her condition. Basically it said to see my Vet and follow his advise. Well I've decided not to have a biopsy done. Instead after many hours of research I have started Roxy on a homeopathic " ". Cure is not the word I looking for but it is supposed to help ease the discomfort. We started with a weeks supplement of Sulphur 30x which will be followed with about 8 weeks of Aurum Met 30x. The sulphur tabs are to help boost the immune system and the Aurum Met is supposed to help with the nasal tissues. We have previously tried applying vitamin E from capsules directly to her nose as suggested by many people including the Vet. When I was at the Nutrition store I asked if there was some type of ointment or cream I could try. The lady, from personal experience, told me to throw away the capsules as they were not strong enough. She suggested a vitamin E skin oil which from her own use was very effective. We have been using it twice a day for just over a week. What an improvement. Is it the oil or the supplements? I don't know but I'm going to keep using both as neither has any side effects. Her nose looks so much better.
