Saturday outing

Christopher & I took a short trip to Kakabeka Saturday. Not much water running this time of the year. It cost $5 to park for 2 hours and if you get caught without a parking permit the ticket will cost $30. I completely forgot about my winter pass, its good at any park, unless you leave it in your other vehicle.

I decided to stop & see the cows at Christophers when I dropped him off. I think he is going to really miss the farm.

Rotten little SOB's

Images captured from the camera that keeps watch over my work truck throught the night. It takes a picture and stores it on my computer every 2 seconds, that about 12,000 over night. Good thing for ffwd on reviewing them, as I do every night. The truck also has a very loud alarm, all you have to do it bang it anywhere to set it off. These guys have been around about every 4th night and I'm not the only one to get pictures. The cops are not interested unless the pictures are crystal clear. Even I could ID the guy in the second picture if I saw him again. But don't drop the pictures (on cd ) at the police station cause they won't have time to look at them. The cops want us to compile what we have and then call and they will send an officer over to view them at our house. Oh and that reminds me, Canadian Tire called today, the baseball bat I ordered is in. I'll have to pick it up in the morning, wonder if I can claim it as a business deduction?

Almost Full

Ventured outside with the camera and tripod to capture a picture of the moon. With the camera set to mirror lock up and using a remote trigger switch I got this result. 500mm Canon reflex lens, FD to EF adapter on a model XS. F8, 1/4000 sec, manual focus. Not bad for a first attempt, a little dark, but way too cold to stay outside for very long. I'll be back.

Looking for more?

I've had a photo site at Panoramio for a couple of years. Many of the images from this site get up loaded to Google Earth for everyone to view. If your interested in seeing more of my work visit

From there, you can find pictures from other people around the world. There are over 30,000,000 photos on this site.

Nifty Fifty

Known as the nifty fifty or fantastic plastic it is the EF50mm F1.8 II lense from Canon. Yea I bought one last week, $120 with a uv filter. It is cheaply built, plastic, yet it has great performance reviews. It is a very good portrait lense suited for low level lighting without the use of a flash. Below are some pictures I took, no flash, just room lighting.

More Ice Races

I had to make a change in this post, it seems I'm not the only one who likes the pictures. The pictures are from Sunday Jan 17, 2010.

Quick Saturday Outing

I decided late in the morning to take a run out to Sleeping Giant for a while. It turned out cloudy, misty and quite windy at the edge of Lake Superior. The waves were crashing fairly strong against the shore. Yea I got my feet wet. It was quiet out there today, not another vehicle in the parking lot and no one on the trails. Strange for such a warm day. I sent Wendy an "OK" using my SPOT messenger around 2PM, just to let her know I was still alive. I carry the SPOT with me at all times when I go out.

Some ice formations

The Head of the Sea Lion from the opposite side.
I climbed up onto the cliffs just past the bridge to take this picture. Atleast I had my tracks in the snow to guide me back to the trail.

An interesting find.

A Day at the Races, Part 2

Part 2, I finally got to try out a lens I borrowed from my father. It is an older 500mm reflex lens that I attached to my Canon with an adapter. It turns out that the lens becomes about a 1000mm ( 500 x 1.6 ( 2/3 sensor ) x 1.25 (for the adapter) = 1000mm. All the shots below were done by hand, not an easy feat with moving targets. I like this lens but it will take some time to get a good feel for it. I'm pleased with the results for a first run in the field. I might just have to go back next Sunday.

A Day at the Races, Part 1

I went to the Ice Races at Chippewa this afternoon. More to work with my camera than to see the races. Although it was interesting. The pictures were taken with a 55-250 IS lens. I like the results and can hardly wait till summer to see some real colour!
