High Falls

Last stop of the day was at High Falls, also known as Pigeon Falls. It is located at the Pigeon River Border crossing on HWY61 south of Thunder Bay. Not much water running right now but we went to see it anyway. Going to have to come back in the spring!

Finger Point

We ( Christopher and I ) took a trip down to the border today to take some pictures. We decided to walk the trail to the lookout on Finger Point. I was joking when I said that the mountain in the first picture was probably where we were going. It wasn't until about half way up that we realized where we were. It was certainly worth the climb for the views of Lake Superior and surrounding areas.

Boundary Islands

Owen Island

Little Trout Bay

Paid a visit to Little Trout Bay on Lake Superior, the first time I've been there as far as I know. It is a Conservation Area that is open to the public. There are picnic tables, bbqs, and a double boat launch. The fishing is supposed to be good. Good spot for a summer outing & swimming for the dog.

More from the new camera

A couple more images from today, its going to take some time to master this camera!

New Camera

I picked up my new Canon Rebel XS today, completew with EFS 15-55 and EFS 55-250 lenses. I took it for a test drive to Chippewa. So far I like the results,

Propane anyone,

According to the internet these were a hot item back in the mid 50's. Propane used for torches, lanterns, etc. I found this in the bush on last Saturday's hike. I believe in leaving stuff like this alone for others to enjoy. I wish everyone felt the same, just take pictures.

Weekend trip to Sibley

Decided Saturday morning to take a trip to Sibley for a walk / ride. A quick pack of camera, lunch and extra clothes and I was off around 9AM. I had to stop & grab my bike from the whse on the way. I arrived shortly before 11AM cause I decided to turn back when I spotted this image from the point. That turned out to cost about 1/2 hour by the time I started moving again. I couldn't resist the colours. An image well worth capturing. I did about 8 km on the bike and walked bout 2km up the shore line toward T-Harbour. It was a section I had not explored. I took about 60 pictures. These are the ones I liked.

Poor Baby

I've noticed in the last month or so that my baby is going blind. She, Roxy, is just over 9 years old. She can't see up close, distance seems to be ok. It has gotten worse lately. She keeps running into thing ( walls, doors, hydro poles ) and smacking her nose, which is in rough shape as it is. The auto immune disorder that attacks her nose is not getting any better. Steroids are the only answer to help her nose but the side effects are not good either. Now she seems to be having trouble walking. I think maybe she fell going down the stairs cause she didn't see them. I'm going to wait a few more days to see if her hind end gets any better. If not then she needs to see the vet. She spends a lot of time in her cage just laying. There used to be a time when she could run 20K, but those days are gone. She has trouble doing 5K. It makes me so sad.

Giant view

These pictures are from a couple years ago. The first is a section of the giant's knees from Thunder Bay, about 12 miles away. The large crevice in the middle is an attraction. The second picture is from the top looking down in the crevice.

Thanksgiving Weekend

Not a great weekend for camping but we survived. I didn't take many pictures or wander too far. Here are a few,

Early snow

We got a little snow on Thanksgiving weekend, but still had a good time. The snow disappeared by the next morning.

Something different

I just started playing with infrared. The exposure time was a little long but I do like the final result after using PS7. Tell me what you think.

What a treat

WOW, we were treated to another sighting of the Pileated Woodpecker. There were two of them going at this tree just a couple hundred feet away. Their heads move so fast its difficult to get a clear picture.

Maybe it's the moisture this year, cause there sure are alot of mushrooms. All shapes, sizes and colours. The middle looks more like a sea creature with spines. It's not soft like most mushrooms. The third is my favorite, I really like the yellow colour.

Holt Lake

This time we made it, Holt Lake on the Burma Trail. A small lake about 350m long x 240m wide. The water was nice and clear but way too many obstacles for the dog to have a go at swimming.

Driftwood beach

A view of Lake Marie Louise from what we call driftwood beach. Seems this spot catches loads of driftwood.

Almost looks like the skull of a primate. It is actually the remains of some type of plant / weed. I need to take this one back into PS and get rid of the distraction in the bottom corner.

Now that looks better. A little cloning & smudging and it is gone.

Crank em up

One of two manual cranks used to lift huge blocks from the dam for controlling water flow from the lake. The dam is part of a bridge that passes over Sibley Creek at the south end of Lake Marie Louise.

Sea Lion

A rock formation that is ever changing. I can remember going here with my parents some 40 years ago. Located in Sleeping Giant Provincial Park.

Lone Tree

It caught my attention cause it is all by itself. Everything seems so blaa in the winter but this is an impressive stand.

Wild Rose

Just far enough in the bush that no one will pick them. They have been there for many years. Love the colour.

A couple rodents

These guys are always lookin for hand outs. I like the detail in the first picture.

Bird of prey

Another picture of the same bird shown on my main page. The pictures were taken with a telephoto lens through a chain link fence.

Old Grave

A grave site from years past. A very interesting place to visit at Silver Islet.

Duck on the Water

Another favorite duck picture. This was taken from about 20 feet using a telephoto lens. The light was just right to highlight the head
